Fencing Camp Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Our camp is built around the goal of making EVERY student become a better fencer. Whether you are new to the sport or a Top Nationally Ranked fencer our experienced coaching team is dedicated to providing detailed, clear instruction tailored to your needs. Our campers consistently report that they learn new technical and tactical skills, improve physical and mental conditioning, feel more confident as a fencer, and achieve a deeper understanding about “what is happening” during a bout so that they can effectively control their opponents after attending our camps. This is the perfect opportunity if you want better fencing results or if you’ve ever lost a bout and don’t understand what happened or what you could have done to win.

    • Specifically our Fencing Camps Offer Specialized Advancement Opportunities:

      • Speed Training for Fencers

      • Video Analysis of Fencing Bouts (Regional, National and International level bouts)

      • Pilates Movement and Core Training for Fencers

  • Yes, please bring your own lunch. Gatorade is also provided as is cold, filtered water from our touch-free bottle-filler water fountain.

  • Our campers range from ages 8 to 24, and the vast majority are experienced High School aged fencers (13 to 18 years-old). Young children will work in a small group with a dedicated coach, when appropriate, and we also allow competitive youth fencers to be challenged by bouting older and more experienced fencers. Our coaches are happy to speak to you if you have specific question about your child’s age and level.

  • WE LOVE BEGINNERS! Camp is the PERFECT way to introduce a new student to the sport of fencing, and our coaches have years of experience with beginner camps. We have a dedicated coach work with age-appropriate fundamentals and introduce bouting when the camper is ready. A clean/sanitized set of equipment will be provided to your child for the week or you can take advantage of our beginner’s equipment discounts to get a complete fencing set you can keep.

  • Fencing is one of the safest sports for your child with lower incidence of knee and ankle injury than soccer and lower concussion risk than swimming!! We take safety seriously: our coaches are CPR/AED and First Aid certified and we have an on site medical director. We have a fully stocked first aid kit, in compliance with New Jersey Department of Health youth camp regulations.

  • YES! June camp location is 100% air conditioned. July and August camp location will be equipped with Air Conditioning units for our camp.

  • Camp is 9am to 4pm daily. Early drop-off and late pick-up is available.

  • Camp provides ample opportunity for bouting new and challenging fencers, but it is always structured and with coaches providing valuable feeding back. We estimate at least two hours minimum bouting time at any week of camp (with less for bouting for brand new beginners!) Bouting at camp should be focused on developing specific offensive and defensive tactics and techniques — so you understand how and why you win (or lose) each touch.

    • We are working as much as we can to open our Ridgewood location in time for summer fencing. As of May 15, 2025 we do not have a guaranteed opening date. We hope to offer Fencing Camp in Ridgewood in August 2025 but have secured an alternate location as a back-up, as the opening will depend on permitting and construction necessary to bring you the BEST fencing experience possible.

    • Ridgewood will be offering a full calendar of Fencing Classes in Fall 2025 with High School Pre Try-out Camps in November and Winter Fencing Camps in December 2025. We will update our website as soon as we know more!
